Charmaine Mapimbiro, affectionately known as Sha Sha, has won big at this year's BET Awards. The Zimbabwean songstress and Amapiano artist bagged the award for Viewers Choice Best New International Act on Sunday, 28 June 2020.

Sha Sha emerged victorious, beating her rivals Rema from Nigeria; Celeste, Young T & Bugsey from the United Kingdom; and Hatik and Sracy from France.

This award category is decided by fans and was presented by South Africa's very own actress and media personality, Nomzamo Mbatha.

This year's BET Awards took place virtually due to the global pandemic. The prestigious awards are meant to honour Black excellence in entertainment and sports.

Sha Sha's musical career

Sha Sha's musical career took off in 2017. She rose to fame with hit songs such as Tender Love, Something About You, Akulaleki and more. The Amapiano songstress is signed to South African music producer DJ Maphorisa's BlaqBoy record label.

Under this label, Sha Sha released several hits, which featured some of South Africa's established music producers and artists such as Samthing Soweto, Kabza de Small, Rouge, and more.

Sha Sha has performed on some of the biggest stages, including performing at Harare International Festival of the Arts (HIFA), where she shared the stage with the late Oliver Mtukudzi; and on Idols SA season 15 finale, alongside Samthing Soweto and DJ Maphorisa.

The elated songstress took to Twitter to pay tribute to her fans. Sha Sha thanked her fans for their continued support and dedicated the award to those who had always stood by her. She tweeted:
